Gera is de op twee na grootste stad van Thüringen, Duitsland, met 96.000 inwoners, 55 kilometer (34 mijl) ten zuiden van Leipzig, 75 km (47 mijl) ten oosten van Erfurt en 120 km (75 mijl) ten westen van Dresden. Gera werd voor het eerst genoemd in 995 en ontwikkelde zich in de 13e eeuw tot een stad.
