Terni is een stad in het zuidelijke deel van de regio Umbrië in Midden-Italië. De stad is de hoofdstad van de provincie Terni, gelegen in de vlakte van de rivier de Nera. Samen met Padua en Treviso is de stad opgenomen in het Padua-Treviso-Venetië Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), dat wordt beschouwd als een statistisch grootstedelijk gebied, met een totale bevolking van 2,6 miljoen.De naam is afgeleid van de oude Veneti-bevolking die bewoonde de regio in de 10e eeuw voor Christus.
