Venetië (VEN-iss; Italiaans: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]; Venetiaans: Venesia of Venexia, uitgesproken als [veˈnɛsja]) is een stad in het noordoosten van Italië en de hoofdstad van de regio Veneto. Het is gelegen op een groep van 118 kleine eilanden die van elkaar zijn gescheiden door kanalen en verbonden zijn door meer dan 400 bruggen. De eilanden liggen in de ondiepe lagune van Venetië, een omsloten baai die tussen de mondingen van de rivieren Po en Piave ligt (meer bepaald tussen de Brenta en de Sile). In 2018 woonden 260.897 mensen in de Comune di Venezia, van wie er ongeveer 55.000 in de historische stad Venetië (centro storico) wonen. Samen met Padua en Treviso is de stad opgenomen in het Padua-Treviso-Venetië Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), dat wordt beschouwd als een statistisch grootstedelijk gebied, met een totale bevolking van 2,6 miljoen.De naam is afgeleid van de oude Veneti-bevolking die bewoonde de regio in de 10e eeuw voor Christus.
